Symplex Compounds & Polishes — Cut, Refine and One-Step

Every Symplex cutting and refining chemical in one place: the DA-optimized Dual Action correctors, the numbered X1 body shop compounds, the Rhino Production pair for throughput shops, a coating-prep primer polish, and metal restorer for bare aluminum and chrome. All of it runs on diminishing abrasive technology — the abrasives break down as you work, so a single product cuts first and refines second instead of handing you a mandatory extra stage.

The first decision is not aggression, it is machine. The Dual Action line is engineered for DA and forced-rotation polishers. The X1 body shop compounds are built for rotary or forced rotation and will not deliver their rated cut on a free-spinning DA. Get that right and the rest is just picking how much correction the paint actually needs.

DA or Rotary: Which Line Is Yours?

A free-spinning dual action polisher stalls under pressure by design — that is what makes it safe, and it is also why a compound formulated for rotary shear will underperform on one. Symplex splits the range accordingly. The Dual Action Correctors (Heavy Cut, Medium Cut, Finish Pro+) are formulated to give rotary-grade correction on a DA machine with far less hologram risk. The X1 body shop compounds assume a rotary or forced-rotation head and the heat and shear that come with it. If you are unsure which machine you own, look at whether the pad keeps spinning when you lean on it: if it stops, you have a free-spinning DA and you want the Dual Action line.

What's in This Collection

  • The Dual Action Correctors — for DA machines. Heavy Cut is the maximum-cut ultra-leveling formula for defects a medium polish will not clear. Medium Cut is a water-based compound on Ultra Cut Diminishing Abrasive Technology — swirls, light scratches, oxidation and water spots, with minimal dusting. Finish Pro+ uses ultra-fine aluminum oxide for light swirls, holograms and micro-marring on dark or soft paint.
  • The numbered X1 compounds — for rotary and forced rotation. Turbo X1 Cut 7 (medium), Piranha X1 Cut 8 (the true one-step) and Nitro X1 Cut 9 (heavy sanding scratches, wool pad), finished with Micro SHR.
  • Rhino Production — panels per hour. Rhino Production Rubbing Compound is quick-cutting and fast-acting for high-throughput shops; Rhino Production Machine Glaze clears the machine marks that fast work leaves.
  • One-step correction and protection. Ultra Polish UP3 corrects light to moderate defects and leaves wax protection in the same pass — built for lot work and volume detailing where a full correct-then-protect cycle is not billable.
  • Coating prep. Finesse Primer Silica Polish refines for gloss and chemically primes the surface so a ceramic coating bonds to paint rather than to polishing oils — the step directly before the coating goes on.
  • Bare metal. Metal Restorer Polish (pint through gallon) and the 16 oz Metal Restorer remove oxidation from aluminum, copper, chrome, stainless, brass and silver, by hand or machine.

Inspect Before You Call It Finished

Polishing oils fill what they do not remove. A panel can look corrected in the bay and show holograms the first time the customer parks in the sun, because the oils were hiding them. Look See Control Prep is the alcohol-based panel wipe that strips those oils so you inspect the actual surface — and it is the required prep step before any Symplex coating goes on. It is ready to use and cheap enough to use liberally, which is the point.

Symplex Polishing FAQs

What is the difference between a compound and a polish?

A compound cuts — it removes clear coat to level a defect. A polish refines — it removes the marks the compound left and builds gloss. Symplex uses diminishing abrasives across the range, so most products do some of both: they cut at the start of the pass and refine as the abrasives break down. That is why a "one-step" like Cut 8 or Ultra Polish UP3 can finish acceptably without a second stage on most colours.

Which Symplex polish is right for a beginner?

Dual Action Medium Cut on a DA polisher with a medium-cut foam pad. It clears the defects most cars actually have, it is engineered for the machine most people own, and the diminishing abrasives mean an inexperienced pass still finishes reasonably. Pair it with the Yellow Euro Foam 85 PPI pad.

Will a one-step polish really protect the paint?

Ultra Polish UP3 leaves genuine wax protection behind, which is enough for lot work and volume detailing. It is not a substitute for a dedicated sealant if the customer is paying for durability — for that, follow with something from Symplex Waxes & Sealants, where protection is rated from 1–2 months up to 6–8.

Do I need a special polish before a ceramic coating?

You need the paint free of polishing oils, or the coating bonds to the oils rather than the clear coat. Two ways to get there: polish normally and wipe with Look See Control Prep, or finish with Finesse Primer, which refines and chemically primes in the same step.

What sizes are available?

The body shop compounds and most polishes come in pint, quart and gallon; the Rhino Production pair is quart and gallon; the 16 oz Dual Action bottles are single-size. Buying by the gallon is where the per-vehicle cost drops, which is why the production products start at quart.
