The washer is the easy part — most of the frustration in a wash bay comes from fittings that do not match, a hose too short to walk the car, or a gun that fights your wrist by the third vehicle.
Our machines are MAXFLOW electric pressure washers — three platforms running patented crankshaft-driven triplex pumps on standard 120V household power, from the high-pressure MX3 to the 3.3 GPM DDM. Pair one with a foam cannon and a high-foaming car wash soap for a contactless pre-wash, then finish with drying towels that leave no spots.
PSI vs. GPM: What Actually Matters for Cars
Flow rinses; pressure cuts. GPM (gallons per minute) determines how fast soap and grit leave the panel, and PSI determines how hard the water hits. Washing a car is mostly rinsing, so a high-flow machine finishes faster and treats trim, badges and older clear coat more kindly than a high-pressure one. Save the high PSI for fleet vehicles, wheel wells, equipment and concrete, where grime is genuinely baked on. It is also worth knowing that most foam cannons want roughly 1.2–2.0 GPM to produce thick foam — a very high-PSI, low-flow machine can make thin, watery suds unless you fit a smaller orifice.

M22 Fittings & Quick Connects, Explained
Most pressure washer hoses and guns use an M22 threaded fitting — but M22 comes in two sizes, M22-14mm and M22-15mm, referring to the inner diameter. The threads look nearly identical, which makes this the single most common ordering mistake in the category. Measure the inner diameter before you buy. The MAXFLOW 8-piece quick connect bundle, for example, is M22-14mm and will not fit M22-15mm equipment.
Quick connects replace threaded fittings with push-fit couplers so you can swap a foam cannon for a wand in about a second. They come as a matched pair: a plug (the male nipple) and a socket (the collared female half). Both are stocked in 1/4" and 3/8", in male and female thread, so you can convert a machine, hose and gun without hunting for adapters. If you run a Golden State C-45 gun, the M22 14mm adapter links it to a standard hose.
Nozzle Colors: What Each Tip Does
Quick-connect nozzles follow an industry-standard color code by spray angle. On paint, wider is safer:

Red (0°): a pencil jet. Never use this on vehicle paint — it will mark clear coat.

Yellow (15°): aggressive stripping. Concrete and equipment, not bodywork.

Green (25°): general cleaning — wheel wells, tires, arch liners.

White (40°): the everyday car-washing tip. Rinsing panels and glass.

Black (65°, soap): low pressure, high volume — the tip that draws detergent for foaming.

Pressure Washer FAQs
What PSI is safe for washing a car?
For bodywork, stay in the roughly 1200–1900 PSI range and use a wide tip — the white 40° nozzle for panels, green 25° for wheels and arches. Never point a red 0° tip at paint. Distance matters as much as the number on the box: back off to about a foot from the panel and let flow, not force, do the work.
Is higher PSI better for detailing?
No. PSI cuts, GPM rinses, and washing a car is mostly rinsing. The 3.3 GPM MAXFLOW DDM finishes a vehicle faster than the 2500 PSI MX3 despite having far less pressure. Buy pressure only when you genuinely need to cut baked-on grime.
Will my pressure washer run a foam cannon?
Most cannons want around 1.2–2.0 GPM. Machines in that band — like the MPro 25 Gen 2 and the DDM — produce thick foam with any cannon in our foam cannon range. A low-flow, high-pressure machine sits at the bottom of that window and needs a smaller orifice to compensate; that is why the MX3 foam cannon bundle ships with four orifices from 1.1 to 1.5 mm.
M22-14mm or M22-15mm — how do I tell?
Measure the inner diameter of the fitting; the external thread is the same on both, which is why they get confused. Order the size your existing hose and gun use, not the size that "looks right". If you are mixing brands, converting everything to quick connects sidesteps the problem permanently.
What's the difference between a plug and a socket?
They are the two halves of one coupler. The plug is the male nipple that inserts; the socket is the collared female half that locks onto it. A working connection needs one of each — a common first order is a socket on the gun and plugs on every attachment, so any accessory clicks into the same gun.
How long a hose do I actually need?
Enough to walk the whole vehicle without dragging the machine. A 25' hose covers a car in a driveway; shops and mobile detailers generally want 50' or 100' so the washer stays parked at the water source. Longer hose costs a little pressure at the gun, which is a fair trade for not repositioning the machine four times per vehicle.
Electric or gas for detailing?
Electric, for almost every detailer. Gas machines make more raw pressure than paint wants, are loud enough to annoy clients and neighbours, and cannot run indoors. The MAXFLOW machines run on standard 120V / 60 Hz household power with a 35 ft cord and GFCI plug, so a wash bay needs an outlet and a tap — nothing else.
Why is my pressure dropping?
Work through it in order: a worn or partly blocked nozzle (swap in a fresh tip from the stainless nozzle set), a restricted inlet filter, a kinked or undersized hose, or a supply tap that cannot keep up with the machine's flow rating. Starving a high-GPM washer for inlet water is the most common cause, and it also damages pumps.
