Wholesale Detailing, Car Wash and Marine Supply Delivered to Bay County Shops

Gelcoat is not clear coat, and nobody here supplies the difference

The marine trade around Grand Lagoon and St. Andrews is real, year-round work, and there is no counter in this county that stocks for it in a detailing context. Gelcoat is far thicker than automotive clear coat and it fails differently — it oxidises into a chalky layer rather than hazing, and a fifteen-year-old hull side takes heavy-cut compound by the gallon and wool before anything will refine. A rotary still earns its keep on that work, whatever the automotive side of the trade has decided about rotaries.

Two things cost yards money here and neither is a chemistry question anyone asks until it has already happened.

Silicone discipline. If a hull is going in for gelcoat or paint repair, any silicone-bearing dressing used anywhere near it means fisheye in the repair. A yard running both detail and repair needs a silicone-free line kept physically separate from the rest of the shelf, and needs to know which of its products qualify.

Mildew lives in the stitching, not on the surface. Marine vinyl mildew comes back because a bleach solution kills what is visible, eats the thread, and leaves the colony in the seam. It takes a dedicated vinyl cleaner and a soft brush, and the yards that switch stop buying upholstery.

Add aluminium-safe chemistry for pontoons and trailers, and non-skid cleaners that lift without glazing the deck, and that is a supply list no automotive catalogue in this market carries.

Salt, sugar sand and UV

Salt aerosol off St. Andrew Bay and the Gulf does not stop at the paint. It settles into trailer hardware, exposed fasteners, hinge pins and roof rails, and it starts flash rust on bare metal in days rather than seasons. Anything crossing the Hathaway Bridge on a commute is taking a light salt bath twice a day. That argues for a salt-neutralising pre-soak and a real undercarriage rinse step, not a stronger shampoo.

Sugar sand is the problem shops underestimate. The quartz sand here is angular and hard and it is everywhere — floor mats, wash mitts, drying towels, the bucket somebody set on the ground. Most of the wash marring blamed on technique in this market is contaminated media doing exactly what contaminated media does. Grit guards, a rotation somebody actually enforces, and a touchless foam pre-wash before anything touches paint. Inside, sand migrates below the carpet pile where suction will not reach it; it takes brush agitation to bring it up and hot-water extraction to remove it, and a rental unit that skips that step comes back with the same complaint next week.

Year-round UV finishes the list. Silicone shine dressings flash and fade on Front Beach Road faster than most shops expect, and cracked dash tops and chalked trim follow. Water-based, UV-stable dressings for trim, vinyl and marine seating hold up here. Gloss-first products do not.

One water note, because the coastal answer is the opposite of the inland one

Bay County's drinking water comes off Deer Point Lake — a reservoir created when North Bay was dammed in 1961, fed largely by Econfina Creek and its spring system. That is surface water, and it behaves differently from the deep-well supply shops run on further inland. The practical consequence: on the coast, the spot you are chasing at the end of a wash is more often salt aerosol drying on a hot panel than mineral out of the line. A salt-neutralising rinse and a drying aid applied while the panel is still wet solves that. A mineral spot remover solves a problem you may not have. Test your own line before you buy the fix.

The tunnel is not the account. The detail bay is.

Bay County has express tunnels along Tyndall Parkway, 23rd Street, Back Beach Road and Front Beach Road, plus self-serve bays scattered between them. We are not going to pretend a corporate tunnel buys its detergent from a truck — that chemistry is bought centrally on a national programme and it is not available to us.

What the tunnel buys locally, and what nobody delivers to it reliably, is everything behind the arch: interior cleaner, dressing, glass, bug remover, and towels by the case for the detail bay at the back. That bay runs on a manager's discretion and a local invoice, and it is the account.

Self-serve and independent operators are a different conversation entirely. Those bays run presoak, foam brush soap and spot-free rinse, and the operator chooses the products rather than inheriting a national programme. The thing that constrains that choice around here is not what a product costs. It is what can actually be got hold of without a freight order and a week of waiting. Tell us what is in your bays now and we will tell you what we can put in front of you.

The alternative is a website and a freight wait

There is no professional detailing supply counter in Bay County. There is none in Tallahassee, Quincy or Midway either. The one professional storefront found anywhere in this territory is a manufacturer's own company store roughly a hundred miles west in Pensacola, which by definition sells that manufacturer's line and nothing else.

So a shop here that wants CarPro, Koch Chemie, Gyeon, Rupes, P&S, Autofiber or IK has two options today, and both of them cost something. Drive to Orlando, Tampa or Atlanta and give up a working day out and back. Or order online, clear somebody's freight minimum, and wait on a pallet — which, on this coast between June and November, is a schedule you do not fully control.

The truck removes both. An order that comes off the truck has no freight line on the invoice and no freight minimum to clear, and the person handing it over knows the line well enough to talk you out of the wrong product. That last part matters more here than it does inland. Nobody commits to a case of heavy-cut gelcoat compound sight unseen on a fifteen-year-old hull. Ask to try it on the boat you are arguing about, on the truck, before you buy it.

Rental turnover, sunscreen, and the March-to-Labor-Day problem

Golf carts, scooters, UTVs, jet skis and rental cars along Front Beach Road and Thomas Drive turn on a clock measured in minutes. Three things drive that consumption and none of them are on a normal detailing shelf.

Sunscreen and self-tanner on vinyl and headliners is oily, it stains, and it does not respond to a general-purpose cleaner. Wet swimsuits and beach towels in a closed cabin is an enzyme and odour problem, not an air-freshener problem. And the volume in a rental operation is towels, not tools — a fleet turning fifty units a day burns through media faster than it burns through chemical.

Season runs from spring break in March through Labor Day. Running out of interior cleaner on a Saturday in June costs a full day of turns. Buy the season ahead in February and we will size a standing order against your bay count.

The rebuild is still a customer

Hurricane Michael came ashore as a Category 5 at Mexico Beach in October 2018, and the rebuild — including the Tyndall Air Force Base reconstruction — is still generating traffic. That means construction dust, mortar splatter, overspray and road tar on contractor fleets, which is a different product list again. Overspray is a decontamination and clay conversation. Concrete splatter is an acid conversation you should have before you make it, because the wrong acid on a wheel or a painted panel costs more than the splatter did. A yard full of white work trucks wants two-step touchless chemistry and bug and tar remover by the case, not a boutique shampoo.

What rides the truck, and how far the leg runs

Bottles and cases are standard route stock — that is what the truck carries, and it is what most Bay County orders look like: gallons of compound, polish, interior cleaner, glass and bug and tar remover, and microfiber by the case. Five-gallon jugs are part of the line and come on the route by request — put them on the order rather than assuming one is aboard. Fifty-five-gallon drums are part of the line too, but a drum is a pallet item — it needs a liftgate and a pallet jack, and a sales route truck is not necessarily carrying either — so a drum is normally an in-store purchase at our Kissimmee store or an arranged delivery, not something handed off the back of the truck. If a wash site or yard here is genuinely running on drum volume, say so when you request the stop and we will tell you plainly how it would have to move rather than take the order and disappoint you.

One combination worth naming for this market specifically: a rinseless wash plus an IK foaming pump sprayer is a complete working system for boats on the hard, dockside work and condo decks, where there is neither a water hookup nor power. It is also the easiest thing on the truck to hand somebody to try.

The leg covers Panama City, Panama City Beach, Lynn Haven, Callaway, Parker, Springfield, Southport, Youngstown, Mexico Beach, Port St. Joe and Wewahitchka, with Marianna and Chipley on the way down. There is no walk-in location anywhere on that list.

Route days, container sizes, pickup and coverage beyond this leg are answered on the where-to-buy hub.

(≈1,450 words including headings on the original spec's counting convention — 1,598 by raw token count, against 1,216 for the original section counted the same way. The increase is one new H2 and an expanded sizes paragraph.)

Term audit, before vs after, this page only: drum 5 → 4 (all four now in the one sizes paragraph or the hub pointer, none above the fold), pail 2 → 0, bulk 2 → 0, dilution 2 → 0, "cost per diluted gallon" 1 → 0.

Ordinal shape check (Check A). New H2 order: 1 marine/gelcoat · 2 climate substrates · 3 water · 4 tunnel-vs-detail-bay · 5 availability/freight · 6 rental turnover · 7 rebuild fleets · 8 sizes and coverage. Against the hub (1 owned stores, 2 retailers, 3 three ways product moves, 4 legs by distance, 5 time zones, 6 hurricane season, 7 what we carry, 8 request a stop) and Tallahassee (1 water, 2 what you cannot buy locally, 3 buyer types, 4 county calendar, 5 student calendar, 6 sizes, 7 request a stop) there is no shared concept in a shared ordinal. Water sits at 1 on Tallahassee and 3 here. The availability concept is deliberately placed at ordinal 5 — not 2, which is Tallahassee's, and not 4, which is where South Georgia's "why a truck beats a showroom" currently sits. Reviewer action: re-run Check A against the final South Georgia page, since that page's H2 order is changing under the same correction and its new reason-to-exist may land an availability concept at 5.

Common questions

Do you carry chemistry for gelcoat, or only automotive paint?

Both, and they are not interchangeable. Gelcoat oxidation on hull sides needs heavy-cut compound and wool in gallon quantities before anything will refine, plus marine-safe polish and UV-stable dressings for vinyl seating. Almost none of that is stocked over a counter anywhere on this coast, which is why it comes to you on the truck. If your yard also does gelcoat or paint repair, ask for the silicone-free list so you are not chasing fisheye in the booth.

Sand keeps coming back in rental interiors after we vacuum. What actually removes it?

Sand works below the carpet pile where suction alone will not lift it. It takes brush agitation to bring it up, then hot-water extraction, then clean drying media afterwards. We stock the extraction chemistry, the brushes and the towel volume that makes that repeatable at rental turn times — the media volume is usually the part that gets underbought.

We are a contractor fleet working the Tyndall and Mexico Beach rebuild. What do you stock for that?

Two-step touchless chemistry, aluminium-safe brighteners, heavy degreaser, bug and tar remover by the case, and decontamination products for overspray. Concrete and mortar splatter is an acid-selection question — talk to us before you put an acid on a wheel or a painted panel, because the wrong one is more expensive than the splatter.
